UPDATE 4/20/10: We have taken the free download of Angel's Love Coal Mines down for the general public, as we will be releasing the finished song sometime in 2011, but if you'd like a copy of it, please email us.
I'd like to take a minute to reach out to the people of the Montcoal, West Virginia Upper Big Branch coal mine explosion. I'm so sorry for your loss.
A few years ago I wrote a song about a coal mining explosion. It's called Angel's Love Coalmines. My family was from a small coal mining town in North Eastern Pennsylvania and this story was passed down to me...
After a major accident in a mine, all the mothers in the town told the children that angels loved coal mines so much that they took their daddy's to be with them. This song was written from a childs perspective. Please remember this is only a rough version, I have not yet finished it, but I wanted you to have it now at such an important time. Here on my website you can download the song for free. You can play it and download it at the very bottom of the page on the website music player.
May this song offer some solace amidst such tragedy.
Angel's Love Coal Mines:
We used to live where the slow creek would wind, on it's way through them woods, to the Chipyqua mines.
Where 20 young men went down, into the devils soul. But angels love coal mines, that's what we were told.
Well angels love coal mines, so that's how it goes.
She was never quite the same, after he died. And now I share his name, with his darker side.
And when all our possessions, were traded and sold.
Angles love coal mines, that's what I was told. Angels love coal mines, so that's where they go.
When they are hiding, they hide below.
I've spent 34 years, off of highway 49, and on those dirt roads and fields, and the foot hills of the northern rail line,
I had a dream that the engine come to take me home, where everything is gold, but angels love coal.
Angels love coal mines, so that's where they go, when they are hiding, they hide below.
Can't find them on highways, in strip malls and bars, cause angels love coal mines, so that's where they are.
Angels love coal mines, angels love coal mines, angels love coal mines.
